D is for Deserted. Desolate. Decrepit.
I pass this chicken coop every work day. Its one of three out buildings that are disintegrating into the earth.
I spoke with Gemma via text and they have been out of power and internet. They are doing ok so when she gets back online she will piggyback her photos onto mine. Miss you Gemma - Hope your power returns pronto.
The Letter D
D is for Disaster, Damage, Devastation. We got our first bit of news (thanks newspaper delivery boy) on wednesday morning and the full extent of Sandy was made known to us. Our block seems to have been spared miraculously. A quick walk around the neighbourhood and we have seen houses with trees that sliced them in half. Just awful stuff. This is at Hecksher Park (remember those stripes pictures that Kim took?). Charlotte normally rides her bicycle on this path around the lake. Alas, the lakeis now full of all the fallen willow trees. So sad.

THE LETTER C
C is for Cracked. C is for Crash. This tree is at the Never Forgotten Cancer Garden. Makes me so sad. The hurricane was not too bad where we are. Our power remained on the whole time and we had minimal damage. No flooding either - lucky us. Hope everyone else weathered the storm the same.
The Letter C
C is for Close Call. This massive pine fell down right next to my neighbours house. Just a foot to the left and it would have been a different story. Thank goodness because for the past three nights we have been cooking at their gas stove and they have been making us cups of tea daily. Hurricane Preparedness Rule #1? Love thy neighbour and make sure they have a gas stove!

The Letter B
B is for Bottled Beverages... I like our wine to water ratio. Hopefully it is enough to see us through Sandy. Posting now before the wind picks up. Be safe everyone.

THE LETTER A
A is for Artillery. This WWI cannon was restored by the town of Patchogue. It resides at the American Legion Hall Post #269. (They might want to have a do-over on the restoration).
Maybe if Hurricane Sandy knocks out the power, we can just post our daily photo as soon as it comes back on. I'm sure there is a way with the iPhones but I am not too saavy when it comes to that. I can never seem to post on the iPad. If anyone has a suggestion, I'm all ears.

TEXTURED
My goal today was to take a photo that you could feel without touching. I drove past a building that is all barn board and couldn't resist stopping. Another theme today that I loved.
300 pictures. Honestly, I didn't think I would get past a month of this project. Some days just getting out of bed and putting my feet on the floor is an accomplishment for me and look at us now. 66 to go...

Textured
Check out the texture on this blanket that a certain person painstakingly crocheted for me many years ago. I love the smiley face. I have something to smile about today: This is day 300!!! 300 hundred days of picture taking and posting. Not a single day missed. 66 to go. We might actually do this!

Team
There were lots of teams practicing at the high school today but I only felt comfortable taking a picture of the stands. The Harborfields Tornadoes...
TEAM
The middle school soccer team getting last minute instructions from their coach. I heard words like, ".....you get the big one" and someone else to "stay on the fast one." The football team is in the background and way beyond them, is the girl's field hockey team.

TASTY
Taste-tea! I drank the tea but I didn't eat the cakes. A Napoleon and two Fudge with Chocolate Cheesecake. The boys said they were really good.
Tasty
Nothing quite as tasty as seeing your name in chocolate. Well I had to take a picture of Seb's chocolates because mine seem to have gone missing.... My super creative sister-in-law and her dad started their own chocolate factory six years ago and they churn out the most amazing handmade chocolates. No wonder she was one of only 400 women to be invited to the "Woman of the Year" luncheon in the UK yesterday. And yes, there are enormous advantages when your brother marries a chocolatier!

Tables
Such a beautiful fall day. Seemed a shame to be at work. Wish I could have come here for a family picnic instead. This is a little park I pass on my commute.
TABLES
Stopped at a beautiful farm stand on my way home from work today. The sun was shining and I bought a bag of Empire apples. This sweet bouquet was at the corner of the stand, sitting on a tiny, rickety table.

Symmetrical
Little punnets of cherry tomatoes at the farmers market - lined up symmetrically with the morning sunshine streaming in on them. Such a beautiful day.

Symbols
My day literally turned upside down and inside out (long story). You might think these cupcakes just symbolize Halloween but you are so wrong. For me they symbolize friendship between two darling five year olds (I hope it lasts). But more than that - thank you Sarah for being one awesome friend today.

SWEET
These sweet viola keep blooming despite the chilly weather and the fact that I didn't plant them - they just appeared late summer. I had a sweet little chickadee at my feeder but he was a blur in all the pictures and my sweet basil photo didn't turn out the way I wanted.

Surfaces
Charlotte leans her hand on the surface of a bench made out of gnarled and twisted tree limbs. The photo doesn't do it justice. It was early in the morning and I wasn't thinking straight...
SURFACES
This shed door could use a good coat of paint.
Incidentally, this theme was made for me. Rusty fences, scrubbed wooden tables, peeling paint - I love these things. I could do a 365 of surfaces only.

Summer Fun
Swimsuit? Yes
Goggles? Yes

Great Beach Weather? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

SUMMER FUN
Talk about summer fun. I went to the beach at the end of the block in a down-filled jacket and gloves. It was really windy and the beach towel kept blowing over. Anyone driving by would think I was crazy with sunblock and flip flops.

Stuffed Animals
So I have a confession to make. I didn't take this picture. My camera was hijacked... by my parents. They wanted to take the photo of the day while I was at work. My mum would have taken the picture and I am totally convinced that my dad would have been chuckling to himself as he set the stuffed animals up on the slide.

STRIPES
At Heckscher Museum Park today we found these trees, wrapped in what looked like knitting. Up close we discovered they are recycled plastic bags.....
Knit For Trees, Recycled Plastic Bags
"About 1 million plastic bags are used every minute worldwide. Knit For Trees comments on the ecological disaster while acknowledging the futility of the fight."

STORE FRONTS
The store fronts along the main street in Bellport, my new favorite town. The sign at the top says that the building was built in 1890.
Store Fronts
Obviously I wanted to get a shot of the store front that we seem to visit frequently. I was so organized. I got there really early so that no cars would be parked in front. Then I bought a cookie at Copenhagen Bakery so that I could set Annabelle up on the chair and it would give me at least two minutes to figure out my shot before she decided to wander into the street. I was so proud at this organization and then I tried to take a picture. Lo and behold my camera battery was still at home charging... so I had to take this picture with my iphone! Sometimes it really becomes apparent why this is called a photo challenge.
